Early Morning Breakfast presentation as the Chief officer Jane Karimi, Dr steve Kaniaru and Part of the CHMT met stakeholder who presented their products on early detections of preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and damage to organs, most commonly the liver and kidneys. It typically occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy and can lead to serious complications for both the mother and the baby if left untreated.

Symptoms of preeclampsia include high blood pressure, protein in the urine, swelling in the face and hands, sudden weight gain, headaches, vision changes, and upper abdominal pain. However, some women with preeclampsia may not experience any symptoms.

The laboratory is working an interdepartmental approach to have the early detections of preeclampsia in time to reduce the deaths of our mothers caused by this monster.

The breakfast was powered by Labflow Kenya, we look forward to working with then to enhance maternal care and reduce maternal deaths.

Kenya needs an approximate 1,000,000 units of blood annually but basically less than 25% of this is collected which is significantly below the annual target as per World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.
The current deficit, reaffirms the need to implement a sustainable blood system.
Today we have met with the Nursing Service Manage Embu Level 5 Hospital,Heads Kenya National Blood Transfusion Services - Eastern Region, County Blood Transfusion Coordinator to re vitalizes the strategies of having sufficient blood for Embu County especially Embu Level 5 Hospital .

We have agreed on long and short terms plans to have sufficient blood supply for the hospital.
The regional Blood Transfusion centre can Acomondate 5000 units of blood for storage, however the facility cannot get to this numbers due to the frequency dry spells experienced when the school and other institutions are on holidays.

We have agreed to form a Hospital Transfusion Committee to handle all blood related issues and derive internal policies for transfusion of blood that will be coordinated by the CBTC and CMLC.
We have also agreed that in the long term plan we will need to put up a Satellite blood Centre as directed by the National Blood Transfusion Centre - Nairobi to collect blood for consumption within the County and supply to dire needs facilities externally.

We have put measure also to reduce the much stress encountered by the Relatives in Such of Blood, We have therefore planned to have key people for communication between the facilities and interdepartmental to avoid collision of information this will go a mile in sorting out our blood issuance and utilization issues.

We have endeavoued to prioritize the patients recovery First.

Did you know that you can actually donate blood 4 times a year?? Now you know
