As we mark International Kissing Day, here’s a gentle reminder that kisses are not only about romance.

A kiss can mean so many things. It can mean comfort, affection, reassurance, celebration, connection, or simply... love. From a mother kissing her child’s forehead, to a daughter kissing her mum goodbye, a sister’s peck, a friend’s warm embrace, or a romantic kiss shared with someone you love, these moments of affection carry meaning that lasts far beyond the moment itself.

For children, loving affection from parents and caregivers helps them feel safe, valued, and emotionally secure. For adults too, warm connection and physical affection can strengthen bonds, bring comfort, and ease stress.

So today, we celebrate all the kisses — the little ones and the meaningful ones. The forehead kisses, cheek kisses, goodbye kisses, reunion kisses, and the spontaneous ones that simply say, “I’m here. I love you.”
