Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.” She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. Mark 7:24-30
Jesus desired to make his presence a secret but it was not possible, his fame had already spread to that region. This woman who had a daughter possessed by impure spirits approached him. This woman had only one request and that was for Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. Jesus uses a parable that this woman follows very well. It is through her answer that her faith does wonders. “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs” shows her faith in Jesus Christ. Perhaps the word ‘first’ depicted a possibility of a miracle and thus gave her answer. Crumbs are useless to those who drop them but are of value to the pets and small animals that feed on them. To her whatever the master said or gave her was enough to get her daughter well.
The woman’s faith was seen in her answer. Some of us have been made to believe that our miracles lie in who prays for us, how much we give, how active we are in church etc. Some of us have even sold our belongings in the name of buying healing or even a job through prayers. This woman’s case shows us that through our words, faith is seen. How do you reply to your situations? Jesus heard the reply and saw the faith and the daughter was set free from the demons. When you read the word of God and you hear God speak through his word, how do you reply to him? Where there is faith, there is no doubt and your words should show that because God sees the faith in our responses. May the Holy Spirit of God equip us with the wisdom necessary so that our words and replies will be faith filled.

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” Matt 26:36-46
The moment and time had come for the son of man to execute the mandate which He was sent on earth to do. At this point Jesus was feeling the weight of the assignment. When He was healing the sick, raising the dead and restoring sight, maybe the weight of His death was not as much. But in this context we find Jesus seeking that he can pass the cup over.
When coming on earth He knew that the cup was meant for Him to drink from, but again, He feels that maybe someone else can bear the burden. Have you ever been in a place where you wanted to pass a certain cup of suffering but deep down you know you cannot because it is only meant for you? Jesus even had intercessors with him but they slept on the job. Because there are cups that even the greatest intercessors cannot pray to stop the will of God.
After the His death and resurrection, Jesus was highly exalted and that is what God was looking at. Most times we want to pass over the cup but the truth of the matter is that God has already seen the victory ahead of you and that is why, you will still partake of the cup, you cannot pass it over, you must endure to the very end.
Anytime you are asking for the end or skipping of a certain season in your life remember to also seek for the will of the Father. The Spirit is always willing to pursue the will of God. Hard as it may be, desire the will of God because eventually there is always victory.

That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. 2 It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. 3 “What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked. “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered. 4 The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the king about impaling Mordecai on the pole he had set up for him.5 His attendants answered, “Haman is standing in the court.” “Bring him in,” the king ordered. 6 When Haman entered, the king asked him, “What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?” Now Haman thought to himself, “Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?” 7 So he answered the king, “For the man the king delights to honor, 8 have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head. 9 Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!’”10 “Go at once,” the king commanded Haman. “Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended.” Esther 6:1-10
Have you ever done something good and got nothing in return for the good deed? Have you lived all your life been a good person but you sort of feel like no one recognizes or appreciates you for it? This was probably how Mordecai might have felt after exposing the people that wanted to kill the king. Then after doing that, no one remembered or honored him for it?
Anyone would think that immediately the king would promote Mordecai in an instant, but that was not the case. What do you do when you live a life of integrity but even after, you still have to be content with a low life? The aspect of being faithful in the little. How much do you sulk or pray when you are still by the gates? Do you always sit and remind God how good you are and that He has not yet blessed you, or you just remain faithful?
Scripture records; That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. And the king asked, “What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for exposing the officers who had conspired to assassinate me?” “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered.
And the King organized for Mordecai to be honored. The interesting twist to this is that after he was paraded and honored, Mordecai still went back to the gates to be a watchman. It was much later that he was elevated to the position of Prime minister. But we still find him, a faithful servant of God, a prayerful man and very content.
Keep being faithful, and seeking after God even when you are in despair, the books or remembrance will be opened sooner than you think. Even when you treat people so well but you do not get kindness in return, do not give up, there is one that sees in secret and rewards in the open.
