Knowing how to choose your LED lamps will save you money. LED lamps are supposed to last longer than a modeling career. If you walk around in the evening, you’ll see streetlights installed 10 years ago still illuminating pavements in Nairobi.
If that is the case, why do you keep replacing yours every few months? How can you learn to pick out quality from the rest?
Really simple.
By just by holding it. What’s outside tends to reflect the inside. The biggest culprit in LED failure is heat dissipation. Heat in LED is like water collecting along the wall of a flood-prone estate. It must be removed quickly or else it will cause damage.
To take care of this, it has a heat sink. This is the ribbed metallic part found at the back. A quality LED lamp has an aluminum heat sink. Others use steel alloy or a special kind of plastic. As a general rule, the bigger the heat sink, the better the quality. This is why a quality LED floodlight feels heavy in your hands.

When it comes to lighting a living room, it’s all about layers. Begin with gentle ambient light to set the overall tone, then introduce task lighting—like a floor or table lamp—exactly where you unwind, read, or chat. Finish with accent lighting: a shaded lamp or wall light that adds atmosphere and highlights textures, art, or architectural details.
Lampshades play a big role in how a space feels. Some diffuse light broadly, while others create a warmer, more intimate glow. The magic lies in balance—too much light from one source feels harsh, too little leaves the room lifeless. Finally, think practical beauty: lighting that’s easy to clean and move makes your living room not just stylish, but a joy to live in every day.
