Cost implications of periods on women
Yesterday, I started a conversation on Facebook prompting my female friends/followers to talk about their period costs.
The goal was to shed some light on how costly it is to obtain period products and care. I am glad that the conversation was enlightening for many, including men,- who seemed very sympathetic and surprised by the situation.
Here's a list of some cost implications during the period/bleeding phase of menstruation:
🔶 On average, 2 packs of sanitary pads (.250 ) and or 2 packs of tampons (.350) per phase.
🔷 Flushable sanitary wipes (@200)
🔶 Lots of toilet paper
🔷 Iron supplements (pills for some)
🔶 Iron rich foods eg liver and spinach
🔷 Painkillers
🔶 Herbal teas for the mood imbalances
🔷 Sometimes women are forced to purchase extra buckets of water.
‼️ The list is endless. Let me know what I left out.
And this is just for one phase.
Each phase of menstruation presents with itself different issues. Both good and hard.
Women deserve free or at least standardized menstrual products and care. Work places MUST be mindful of menstruation hardships, to grant women the support they need. Time off, rest and grace.

Conversations that seek to empower refugee men and women, while creating a safe space to share on their lived experiences.
and for all means that policies, programs and social systems do not discriminate against the vulnerable groups, including refugees.
We cannot design programs to empower refugees and displaced persons without bringing them on board! Only they can tell where it pinches. Only they know what help they need! If we truly seek to serve vulnerable communities, we must give them what they need, not what we think they should have.

There was a certain Facebook post on a man who had been cheated on by the wife. The man was very angry at his lover's partner, well, that's understandable. The comments on the post are what caught the eye.
Please, we cannot justify violence, murder or even abuse! We cannot! Nothing under the sun should justify hurting a fellow human being. Be it a man or a woman.
We cannot tell women to "FIX" themselves in order to avoid violence against them!
We cannot preach to men that reporting injustices perpetuated against them is a sign of weakness, because it is not! Please report!
We cannot treat women as the weaker, lowly less deserving gender! We cannot! We cannot do this to men either!
The fight against gender based violence is not war waged on men! It is advocacy against injustices perpetrated on the basis of gender. Whether to a man or a woman!
