๐ต The Acid in your stomach is ideally at a pH of 1-3 (lower number means more acidic and better for digestion and pathogen elimination).
๐ต Your stomach can deal with this Acidic environment because of the Mucus layer. H-Pylori and other pathogens eats up the mucus layer causing ulcers.
๐ต Your body's primary anti-reflux barrier is a type of muscle called a sphincter.
๐ต A sphincter is a highly specialized type of muscle that allow or restrict passage of fluids and materials through your body.
๐ต LES or Lower Esophageal Sphincter is the valve that restricts the flow of stomach acid to the food pipe.
๐ต This valves close when the abdominal acidity & pressure builds up preparing for digestion. Low Stomach acid won't trigger closer of the sphincter muslce hence regurgitation of acid to the throat.
๐ต When your Stomach Acid is too LOW (higher pH), the stomach fails to signal your brain to close the valves at the right times & with sufficient pressure.
๐ต When this happens, the stomach acid refluxes into the Esophagus & thats what causes the burning sensation.
๐ต So how burning sensation with less acidity?
Even though it's less acidic, it is still an Acid & highly corrosive. Unlike the stomach with mucus lining, other parts of the body (in this case esophagus) can't handle it.

During weight management in obesity and overweight, we have 3 things we need to look at
Diet
Physical exercise
And Lifestyle modification.
But what does Lifestyle modification entail really?
This involves behavior modifications which include;
Chain breaking; this involves breaking the link between behavior that tend to occur together e.g. snacking on chips while watching TV. Make eating a singular activity.
Stimulus control; alter the environment to minimize the stimulus for eating e.g. storing food out of sight and avoiding the paths by the food outlets.
Positive stimulus control include;
Keep low fat snacks at hand to satisfy hunger and appetite
Place walking shoes in a convenient visible location
Slow the rate of eating to become mindful of your eating and to reduce food intake
Pausing during meals
Chewing for a maximum number of times so as to slow the eating process.
Cognitive structuring; this involves changing ones frame of mind regarding eating. E.g. instead of using a difficult day as an excuse for eating.
Self-monitoring; this involves monitoring the tracks which foods are eaten when, who one eats with, which physical activities are completed and records of body weight. This helps to understand more about their habits and reveals patterns e.g. unconscious overeating that may explain problem behaviours that lead to weight gain. Emotional settings in which eating occur can be indicated.
Setting easy to achieve short term goals; these includes increasing the number of minutes of walking on weekends
Stress management; these involves daily meditation, progressive relaxation and visual imaginary exercise.
Social support; this involves organizing commercial support meetings and classes. E.g. slim possible programme.

When using Ketogenic diet for weight loss, People tend to gain weight after following the keto diet for several reasons:
They donโt exercise enough
They return to eating high-sugar, ultra-processed foods
They donโt eat enough fiber
They continue to eat high-fat, protein-heavy meals with red meat

Six tips for maintaining weight loss after keto
Your Nutritionist should encourage you to:
Exercise at least 30 minutes at least five days a week
Donโt skip meals, especially breakfast
Donโt add back too much protein
Pay attention to your fiber intake
Manage stress and get enough sleep
Practice self-acceptance and self-care
How many mother's with babies under the age of 5 understand the the term kangaroo care as far as hypothermia (low body temperatures) are concerned? Or the importance of having paracetamol syrup in the house as far as hyperthermia ( fever) is concerned, or better still sugar and salty water for those who have no access to ORS solutions and zinc tablets in diarrhea management? Having knowledge in such can help save lives in case of an emergency...hence the importance of attending the pre and postnatal care until the baby is 5yrs of age.
