Good politics can significantly shape society for the better by fostering inclusive governance.

President William Ruto's recent visit to Wajir came with a rather impressive retirement package in advance ,100 camels, generously donated by local elders as a cultural symbol of appreciation and loyalty.
Now, for those unfamiliar with the economics of hump-backed livestock, a single camel fetches between KSh 500,000 and KSh 1 million. This means the presidential caravan quietly left Wajir carrying a gift worth somewhere between KSh 50 million and KSh 100 million.
An extraordinary display of generosity indeed.
Unfortunately, there is one stubborn problem. The same region continues to battle chronic shortages of food and water. Families trek for kilometres in search of a jerrycan of water, livestock perish during droughts, and hunger remains an unwelcome permanent resident.
One cannot help but admire the mathematics of our priorities.
A serious borehole can be sunk for roughly KSh 500,000. By simple arithmetic, the value of those camels could have financed about 100-150 boreholes. That's enough to scatter life-saving water projects across every sub-county and leave residents arguing over who has the cleanest water instead of who has the shortest queue at the water point.
But where is the political glory in commissioning a borehole? A borehole does not trend on social media. A borehole does not kneel before politicians. A borehole cannot be paraded before television cameras with traditional songs in the background.
And so, rather than gifting themselves water, food security, and dignity, some leaders chose to gift the President what is effectively a moving livestock bank.
The tragedy of African politics is not the absence of resources. It is the remarkable ability to celebrate generosity upward while neglecting necessity downward.
In a region crying for water, the elders decided the most urgent thirst to quench was that of political symbolism.

The weaver bird does not build its magnificent nest by wishing from a branch. It returns again and again with one blade of grass at a time until the whole tree admires its craftsmanship.

Greatness is not a gift handed to those who just Hope; it is a stubborn child born of sweat, patience, and countless attempts. Even the hyena, despite its laughter, must keep running if it wants supper. Those who aspire to lead tomorrow must begin laying stones today.

The crown belongs not to the loudest dreamer, but to the one who wakes early, works faithfully, stumbles, rises, and keeps moving until the village has no choice but to say, “Indeed, this one was preparing for greatness all along.”

Why can’t the government import fuel from Libya and sell it to us at Ksh 100 per litre?

This is akin to a scenario where an individual sustains a cranial gunshot injury, after which the same perpetrators organize a fundraiser ostensibly to facilitate medical treatment.
Subsequently, the patient is abandoned with an untreated, progressively necrotic wound, predisposing them to infection, tissue degeneration, and potentially life-threatening complications.

FUEL PRICE SPIKE DOES NOT AFFECT THE “TWOTAM” CHAMPIONS

I must admit, I truly admire the few champions in Kenya. With petrol and diesel shooting up by Ksh 40, something rather magical seems to happen at the pump. You are first asked whether you are 2TAM or WANTAM and, of course, if you belong to the 2TAM camp, you conveniently purchase fuel at the “old” prices.

It doesn’t stop there. Even in public transport, the distinction is crystal clear. The few two-term faithful glide comfortably at a fare of Ksh 1,000, while the rest of us the WANTAM crowd—are left to shoulder the noble burden of Ksh 1,500.
Truly admirable, this special class of citizens who seem untouched by the harsh realities of fuel hikes.

I really do admire the few TWOTAM people.

The Chinese are into the future,
They are deliberately very deliberate in ensuring they take charge of us.

By 2065 China will be the single super power being rivaled by none.

Oburu Oginga does not possess political strength or charisma anywhere close to that of Raila Amollo Odinga. You can be certain that William Ruto will ensure the Deputy Presidency remains in the Mt. Kenya region. However, if he opts to allocate it to Luo Nyanza, then Millie Mabona is arguably the only figure capable of delivering nearly the entire Luo vote in his favor.

Hon Millie Odhiambo Mabona, MP
