🎯 Principles of Expansion
🧭 We have seen that before God expands His people, He often takes them through the Fire of Hiding, the Fire of Delay, and the Fire of Opposition. But there is another fire that many believers face—the Fire of Misunderstanding.
🔥 FIRE #4: THE FIRE OF MISUNDERSTANDING
📖 "My brothers misunderstood me; they sent me away." — Psalm 69:8 (NLT). One of the most painful experiences in life is being misunderstood. People question your motives, misinterpret your actions, or judge you unfairly. Yet throughout Scripture, many of God's servants walked through this fire before stepping into greater influence and purpose.
🔍 Signs You Are In The Fire of Misunderstanding
1️⃣ PEOPLE MISJUDGE YOUR MOTIVES
📖 "They hated me without cause." — Psalm 69:4 (NLT)
You may be trying to do what is right, yet others assume the worst about you. In this fire, your intentions are often questioned. Remember: God knows the truth even when people do not.
2️⃣ THOSE CLOSEST TO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU
📖 "Even his brothers did not believe in him." — John 7:5 (NLT). Sometimes the greatest misunderstanding comes from family, friends, or people you expected to support you. Familiarity does not always produce understanding.
3️⃣ YOU FEEL LONELY AND ISOLATED
📖 "I looked for sympathy, but there was none." — Psalm 69:20 (NLT)
Being misunderstood can make you feel alone. You may wonder whether anyone truly understands what you are carrying. Even during such times, God remains close when others seem distant.
4️⃣ YOU ARE TEMPTED TO DEFEND YOURSELF CONSTANTLY
📖 "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." — Exodus 14:14 (NIV). One sign of this fire is the urge to explain yourself to everyone. Not every accusation deserves an answer. Sometimes silence allows God to become your defender.
✨ Memorable Quote: "Being misunderstood by people does not mean you have been abandoned by God; sometimes it means He is teaching you to value His approval above all others."
🙏 Prayer: Father, help me when others misunderstand me. Guard my heart from bitterness, give me grace to remain faithful, and teach me to find my identity in You alone. In Jesus' name, Amen. 🔥

🧭 We have learned that God often hides His people before He reveals them. But after the Fire of Hiding comes another fire that many believers find difficult to endure—the Fire of Delay. This is the season where God gives a desire, a promise, or a prayer burden, but the answer does not come immediately.
🔥 FIRE #2: THE FIRE OF DELAY (WAITING FIRE)
📖 "But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb." — 1 Samuel 1:5 (NIV). 👉 Hannah had a God-given desire to have a child, yet year after year the answer did not come. She watched others receive what she prayed for while she continued to wait. When you are going through this fire, the following signs will be visible in your life:
🔍 Signs You Are In The Fire of Delay
1️⃣ YOU HAVE BEEN PRAYING ABOUT THE SAME THING FOR A LONG TIME
📖 "Year after year it was the same." — 1 Samuel 1:7 (NLT). Hannah's situation did not change overnight. The same prayer followed her from one year to the next. One sign of the Fire of Delay is when you find yourself bringing the same request before God repeatedly. Listen to this: Repeated prayers do not mean God has stopped listening.
2️⃣ OTHERS REMIND YOU OF WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE📖 "Peninnah would taunt Hannah and make fun of her because the Lord had kept her from having children." — 1 Samuel 1:6 (NLT). Peninnah continually brought it to her attention. Every insult reminded Hannah that she had no child. One sign of the Fire of Delay is that people, situations, or circumstances constantly remind you of what is missing in your life. Someone needs to hear this: The very area of delay that people talk about today may become the area of victory they celebrate tomorrow.
3️⃣ THE DELAY BEGINS TO AFFECT YOUR EMOTIONS
📖 "Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not eat." — 1 Samuel 1:7 (NLT)
Waiting is not always easy. Sometimes the delay produces discouragement, frustration, and emotional exhaustion. The Fire of Delay often tests your heart before it tests your faith.
4️⃣ PEOPLE MISUNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN
📖 "Must you come here drunk?" Eli demanded. — 1 Samuel 1:14 (NLT). Eli misjudged Hannah's brokenness. What he thought was drunkenness was actually deep prayer.
One sign of this fire is feeling misunderstood by people who cannot see what you are carrying.
Listen to this: Not everyone will understand your struggle, but God understands every tear.
5️⃣ YOU DEVELOP A STRONG URGE TO PRAY
📖 "Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord." — 1 Samuel 1:10 (NLT). The longer the delay continued, the stronger Hannah's desire to seek God became. The waiting drove her to prayer. The disappointment drove her to prayer. The burden drove her to prayer. One sign of the Fire of Delay is that you find yourself praying more intensely about the matter than ever before.
✨ Memorable Quote: "The delay is not evidence that God said no; sometimes it is evidence that God is preparing something greater than you imagined."
🙏 Prayer: Father, help me trust You when answers seem slow to come. Strengthen my faith when the waiting becomes painful. Teach me to keep praying, keep believing, and keep trusting Your timing. Help me remember that Your delays are never without purpose.

🧭 Journey so far: We have learned that fire is not destruction—it is divine preparation. Before expansion, God refines, tests, and purifies.
Now we begin to break down the 5 types of fire every believer goes through in expansion.
🔥 FIRE #1: THE FIRE OF HIDING (OBSCURITY FIRE)
The Fire of Hiding is the season where God conceals you before He reveals you. It is when heaven knows your name, but people do not. It is the place where God develops depth before giving you influence. Many believers pray, "Lord, use me!" But God first answers, "Let Me prepare you."
✨ BIBLICAL FIGURE: MEPHIBOSHETH — THE FIRE OF OBSCURITY
📖 “Mephibosheth… was crippled in both feet.” — 2 Samuel 9:3 (NIV)
👉 After the fall of Saul’s house, Mephibosheth was hidden in Lo Debar—a place of obscurity, forgotten identity, and dependency. When you are going through this fire, the following signs will be visible in your life:
🔍 Signs You Are In The Fire of Hiding
1️⃣ YOU FEEL FORGOTTEN
Like Mephibosheth in Lo-Debar, you wonder whether anyone remembers you. But God's silence does not mean God's absence. You may be hidden from people, but you are not hidden from God.
2️⃣ YOUR CURRENT LOCATION DOES NOT MATCH YOUR DESTINY
Mephibosheth belonged at the king's table, yet he was living in Lo-Debar. Sometimes where you are is not who you are. The God who knows where Mephibosheth is knows where you are.
3️⃣ YOU ARE BEING PRESERVED, NOT PUNISHED
What appeared to be abandonment was actually preservation. If Mephibosheth had been exposed too early, he may not have survived the political turmoil of the kingdom. Listen to this: God hides you in obscurity to heal you for authority!
4️⃣ GOD IS PREPARING A DIVINE SUMMONS
Mephibosheth did not fight his way into the palace. The king called for him. When God decides it is time, you will not have to force doors open. The same God who sent for Mephibosheth can send for you!
5️⃣ YOUR NAME IS STILL BEING DISCUSSED IN ROYAL COURTS
While Mephibosheth sat in Lo-Debar, David was searching for him. While you are waiting, God is already arranging your next chapter. Someone needs to hear this: Lo-Debar is not your final address.
✨ Memorable Quote: "Lo-Debar was not Mephibosheth's destiny—it was merely his waiting room."
🙏 Prayer: Father, help me trust You in my hidden season. Prepare me, preserve me, and bring me into Your purpose at the right time.
