New BlackBerry Debuts at CES—And, Yes, It Has a Physical Keyboard

BlackBerry is slated to make a big return in 2017 with a new device. On Wednesday at CES, a gathering originally known as the Consumer Electronics Show, tech giant TCL Communications Technology announced that it will be reviving the iconic brand that was dwarfed over the last decade by the dominance of rivals like Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy. The announcement was light on details, but a press release from the company states the new device, which Mashable reports will be named "Mercury," will be focused on security, productivity, and reliability, likely in an aim to reclaim its once core user group of business professionals. "Previewed at CES, the smartphone draws on unparalleled mobile security and software expertise to offer the most complete end-to-end smartphone security available on Android," the press release reads.

Fans who are nostalgic for the sound of furiously typing BBM messages on the BlackBerry's keyboard will be happy to know that the new devices seem to have a physical QWERTY keyboard. An accompanying video showing close-ups and detail shots of the device indicates that the new phone will also retain the dark, sleek design that was synonymous with the BlackBerry name.

Steve Cistulli, president and GM of TCL Communications Technology, said in the press release that more details about the device would be forthcoming at an industry event in Spain at the end of February. "We look forward to unveiling details around this distinctly different and impressively designed BlackBerry smartphone around the Mobile World Congress time frame next month," Cistulli said.

Apple iOS 10 at WWDC 2016

WWDC 2016 brought changes to iMessage, Siri and more with the iOS 10 update.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can now update it for free to iOS 10, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. You’ll need 1.1 GB of free space available to complete the download. First, make sure you’re on WiFi and have a good amount of battery juice left. Then, tap on your “Settings” app, tap “General,” tap “Software Update” and scroll down and tap “Download and Install.”
Don’t be afraid! Although some people had problems with iOS 10 when it first came out earlier last week, Apple has smoothed everything out now. And there are some pretty useful and fun new features available now for your iPhone and iPad in iOS 10.
