So...do you know what a synchronization license is and also a master use license? Do you know why you would need these types of licenses? As a user of music who wants to add a musical work to visuals, you need a synchronization license. The person(s) who created the musical work or any person or entity that they have given authority to represent them e.g music publishing companies, have the exclusive right to tell you how the musical work can be used. So if I want to use a musical work I must contact the writers and/or publishers to get permission. If I want to use a particular recording of the musical work e.g I want to use the Whitney Houston version of the song 'I Will Always Love You' instead of the original recording done by Dolly Parton, then in addition to the synchronization license I would also need a master use license. This master use license is given by the person or entity that owns the master recording. The master owner of the Dolly Parton version is not the one who owns the Whitney Houston version. What they have in common is that the songwriter is the same i.e. Dolly Parton. So be sure that if you want to use copyright music for your videos that have still or moving images, you first contact the rights holders to get their terms and conditions.
