We would like to share the good news for CS dept!
Our CS graduate student team, SUNY-Korea-Bigone, (Sangyup Lee (CS PhD), Sharoz Tariq (CS PhD), Youjin Shin (CS PhD), Hoyoung Kim (CS PhD), and Simon Woo (CS Faculty)) competed for the national AI R&D Challenge (http://airndchallenge.com/g5/) hosted by the Korean Government, Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion (정보통신기술진흥센터, IITP), and won the 3rd place among participated universities in Korea just behind Yonsei (1st), and KAIST (2nd). Overall, they won the 7th place among more than 200 participated teams including national research labs, companies, and universities in Korea. The first challenge was to detect fake human faces created by Generative Adversarial Networks (AI technology), and the second task was to detect fake images such as face swap created by humans. They both achieve high accuracy in detecting those face images using novel Deep Neural Networks (DNNs). Congratulate those students and faculty for their hard work and exceptional performance at the national competition.
