On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month … I was 20 years old in this picture standing on the front slope of my M1A1 tank in the middle of Kuwait in a burning oil field with fire shooting out of the ground, the size of redwood trees and a deafening roar of hundreds of oil well fires, shooting fire into a canopy of smoke above us and raining oil that you can see on my shoulders and filling the surrounding lakes of oil. I didn’t know that my decisions to join the Army at 17 1/2 would lead me here but in some part of me I’m glad it did. I served with Men that to this day, We are still close friends because of what we experienced together because now we are Veterans. Now I do my best to try and help my fellow Veterans so if you know anybody who’s struggling who served, send them my way. I say to you, Happy Veterans Day! Go get your free chow! Charlie Mike!!!

World Goth Day!
Post-punk bands like Joy Division, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and The Sisters of Mercy spoke to the darker corners of my soul, their music a haunting blend of introspection and raw emotion. It was in these depths that the goth subculture truly took root. Goth offered a sanctuary, a place where my melancholy could be embraced and celebrated, where darkness was not feared but revered and even played with.
World Goth Day, celebrated today and every May 22nd, is a tribute to this enduring culture. It’s a time to reflect on our past, honor the experiences and influences that have shaped us, and to continue nurturing the next generation of goths—we affectionately known as "baby bats." Providing them a safe alcove, a structure where they can explore and express their own dark-hearted creativity. And let’s not forget those mixtapes we made, filled with our favorite tracks, lovingly curated to introduce our friends to the scene. 🎶💀
In this culture, we find beauty in the macabre, solace in the somber, and strength in the shadows. World Goth Day is not just a celebration of music or fashion but community recognition bound by shared appreciation for all things dark mystical and mysterious.
It’s a day to look back with melancholy and gratitude, and to look forward with antici-pation, knowing that our love for the gothic will continue to thrive and evolve as it has for over 40 years.
May the echoes of our past continue to inspire, and give comfort in a dark embrace of goth. 🖤🌑

As I was going through some old photos of my post punk days, I came across this one. It was my GF of the time who encouraged me and a whole entourage to invade clubs here in DC, wear makeup and listen to the latest music since most of what we liked to hear was not playing on the radio 📻 We had a terrific summer adventure together and learned a lot from one another as you do with young love. I wonder what ever happened to her…
