Our Story
The Salty Squad is dedicated to the students I have taught to paddle in the past and their SUP smiles that I will forever remember.
A small group of kids shared a love for the ocean and became a team.
Teaching at Hope Academy, I ran afterschool SUP club and encouraged the students to join me on the water after school and to compete in SUP races throughout the year. As both their teacher and SUP instructor, I saw how the lessons a student learned though SUP translated to how they approached school, work and other challenges. I realized that SUP is more than just a fun watersport (we don’t tell the kids that). It is therapy that doesn’t feel like therapy, it reduces anxiety and promotes confidence.
The Salty Squad aims to provide these kinds of opportunities for more children, more often, and creating many more Happy, Sandy, SALTY SQUADS.
