Strengthening the socio economic role of small farmers and traditional agro-food processors in Lebanon, Syria and other eligible regions to facilitate their access and intregration into the distribution network with high added value : Organic and Fair trade. General objective: Contribute to the local development in remote rural areas of Lebanon, Syria and other eligible regions and fight against the emigration of families of small producers through the leverage of Fair trade and Organic agriculture. Specific objectives : - Identify pathways between Fair trade and organic producers in the southern shores of the Mediterranean countries and consumers in the North Shore - Create links between small producers around the Mediterranean in order for them to analyse the Fair trade market and develop a collective marketing strategy to promote South-South as well as North-South exchanges - Promote a specific articulation between the establishment of "protected natural areas" in the Mediterranean region (North and South) and the development of specific regions eligible for Fair trade channels. Potential results : Fifty production units (agricultural cooperatives, food processing cooperatives, small family businesses) are enhanced by the Fair trade and/or organic certification of several artisanal food chains, in order to access fair trade markets in the Euro-Mediterranean countries (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece … ) The added value of Fair trade is recognized at the regional level, and products (of the beneficiary production units) gain notoriety locally, regionally and internationally, thereby promotiong local traditional know-how of the targeted regions The strengthening and professionalization of the commercialization process allows a perpetuation of the activity of 50 productions units-connected to a regional network- and a 20% increase of sales of their producs Fairtrade certified The Fair trade exchanges in the Mediterean region increases. The producers from the different countries involved in this project have, together, a better access to the market.
