Kayany Foundation: Bringing Education to Refugee Children

Founded in 2013 in response to the Syrian crisis, Kayany Foundation is a Lebanese NGO dedicated to providing quality education for Syrian refugee children and youth living in informal tented settlements. In partnership with the Center for Civic Engagement and Community Service at AUB, Kayany established GHATA portable schools in the Beqaa Valley; an innovative and sustainable solution to reach “out of school” refugees. Since then, our programs have continued to grow, expanding access to education where it’s needed most.

🌿 Designing Inclusive Spaces for All Students

In partnership with the American University of Beirut (AUB) and D4C – Design for Communities NGO, we launched an impact-driven design hub at our school in Bar Elias in 2018. A new shaded structure now provides a safe and flexible space in the playground where students can play, gather, and rest. Multifunctional seating made from locally recycled materials encourages comfort, creativity, and connection.
