This was six years ago.
Jordan is almost 40 now. Before he came to us, he was locked in his tiny cage 24/7 with nothing to do except watch what was going on around him and listen.
Parrots learn to talk as a tool of communication. They are social animals that live in flocks with an amazing social structure. In captivity, we become their flock, especially when they don't have other parrot companions, and that's the main reason for them to talk. They want to communicate, and they want to belong.
It's so amazing and cute when our parrots talk, but when it's the only thing they are allowed to do, when talking becomes a desperate cry for attention and belonging, it's not cute anymore ...
Parrots have many more qualities other than talking. They have many more needs than sitting in a tiny cage all the time with nothing to do but sit and learn our language. They need to fly, play, forage, and be with other parrots.
Jordan does not talk like before. He's busy playing, chewing, and hanging out with the rest of the flock. He's just busy being a parrot 😀
He still talks to me sometimes, but he has many more things to do now, many other choices, and whenever he talks, it's very precious because it's by choice and not by desperation.

Happy Earth Day !
We either stand up and do something, or we simply do not deserve this earth 🌎

This was a memory 5 years ago. Back then, we had big dreams, major plans...
Today, we still dream. We still have plans. However, our priorities have dramatically changed, and our biggest dream now is survival with the hopes of being able to share a few memories a couple of years down the road...
