A cataract is not only an adult problem. Some children are born with a cloudy lens or develop a cataract early in life. When the lens is not clear, the brain does not receive a sharp image and normal visual development can be blocked, even if the eye looks normal from the outside.

In many cases, timely surgery gives the visual system a chance to develop properly and reduces the risk of permanent “lazy eye” in one or both eyes. Parents may notice a white reflex in photos, misaligned eyes, nystagmus, or the child not fixing and following well.

At AEC, our pediatric specialists evaluate each child carefully and discuss the best timing and plan for surgery, visual rehabilitation and long-term follow-up.

If you are using artificial tears many times a day but still feel burning, grittiness, heavy eyes, or fluctuating vision, you may be dealing with chronic dry eye, not just occasional dryness.

In many cases, the problem is not the lack of drops, but an underlying issue such as poor tear quality, eyelid gland dysfunction, inflammation, contact lens wear, or long hours on screens. These need more than simple lubrication.

At AEC, our doctors perform a structured dry eye evaluation to understand the cause of your symptoms and design a tailored plan that may include medication, lid care routines and in-clinic treatments to improve comfort and protect the surface of the eye.

📞 Call 04 444 541 or DM us to book a dry eye assessment.

In people with diabetes, tiny blood vessels in the retina can leak fluid into the macula, the area responsible for sharp central vision. This is called Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) and it is a major cause of vision loss in diabetic patients.

You may notice blurry or “washed out” central vision, difficulty reading or recognizing faces, or that straight lines look wavy or distorted. These changes can develop gradually and sometimes go unnoticed at first.

Regular eye checks are essential for anyone living with diabetes, even if your vision still seems “good.”

At AEC, our retina specialists follow patients from the earliest diabetic changes all the way to more complex situations, offering structured monitoring and advanced care when macular edema is already present.

The eye chart tells us how well you see. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) tells us why.

OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that takes high-resolution “slices” of the retina and optic nerve, allowing us to detect early changes from conditions like diabetic retinopathy, macular disease, glaucoma, and retinal swelling long before vision is seriously affected.

At AEC, OCT is part of our advanced diagnostic suite, guiding treatment decisions and helping us follow disease progression with precision over time.

📞 Call 04 444 541 or DM us at AEC to book a comprehensive eye exam with OCT imaging when needed.

New year, new plans — don’t forget your eyes.
A comprehensive eye exam can detect more than just a change in your glasses prescription. It helps pick up early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, cataracts and macular problems before they start affecting daily life.

Start 2026 with clearer, more comfortable vision and peace of mind.

Successful cataract surgery starts before the operating room.
Using Lenstar biometry and A-scan, our team measures the length and curvature of the eye with high precision to calculate the ideal intraocular lens power for each patient.
This means more accurate results, fewer surprises after surgery, and a lens choice tailored to your visual needs.
If you have been told you have cataracts or notice cloudy vision, glare or faded colours, our cataract specialists can guide you through your options.

📞 Call 04 444 541 or DM us to schedule your cataract evaluation at AEC.
