We have the honor of welcoming Iranian Master calligrapher Vahid M. Jazayeri to lead the first week of ATDB this summer; learning the script!
He will be assisted by Dr. Mohammad Jazayeri. The brothers collaborate in the kuficpedia.org project.
Vahid M. Jazayeri is an established Master calligrapher, graphic designer, and expert in early Arabic Kufic script. He holds a Bachelor of Art in Graphics and has been awarded the Excellence in Art Certificate, the equivalent of an honorary Ph.D. Ustaz Vahid began his study on Thuluth script in 1982 and his study on Naskh scripts in 1991. After nearly ten years of training he began teaching and within a year he was developing two complementary fields: historical calligraphy in a range of media (ceramics, coins, plaster and stone, manuscripts) and contemporary type design. He has published several books on Arabic calligraphy and logotypes and conducting tutorial workshops in different countries.
Dr. Mohammad Jazayeri (PhD, Assistant Professor) became passionate about Kufic script in 2001, when he was selected as editor of the book entitled, Kufic Encyclopedia (published in 2004). He has been an avid researcher in the subject area and has continued to share his knowledge and culture with the world. He believes that Kufic script can be used as a bridge of friendship between nations, races and countries by unlocking its secrets and revealing its mysteries. He is co-author of several books on Arabic Kufic calligraphy and well as co-teacher.
