Inauguration of the Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Business Management (DEBM) 2026/2027 Batch

The inauguration ceremony of the Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Business Management (DEBM) 2026/2027 Batch, offered by the Department of Management and Organization Studies of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, was held on 07 June 2026 at the Jayarathna Auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Nihal Hennayake, Dean of the Faculty, highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship development for the country's economic growth and emphasized the need to nurture a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs.

Professor Shashika Manorathne, Head of the Department, elaborated on the department's role in developing entrepreneurs through structured academic programmes, practical learning experiences, and extracurricular activities designed to foster entrepreneurial competencies.

The gathering was also addressed by Professor B. Nishantha, Course Coordinator of the DEBM programme, who emphasized the importance of education, continuous learning, and adaptability for entrepreneurs operating in today's dynamic business environment.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Nilendra Vithanage, Assistant Vice President (SME and Retail Credit) of NDB Bank. He inspired the audience by highlighting practical strategies for improving the creditworthiness of entrepreneurs and shared valuable insights on successful approaches to business growth and financial management.

The event marked the official commencement of the DEBM 2026/2027 Batch and provided participants with valuable perspectives on entrepreneurship, business development, and lifelong learning.
