How to find a great music teacher.

Step 1 : Know what to look for. Look for a skilled performer who is serious about teaching. A good teacher communicates clearly and has high expectations of you, covering fundamentals of performing skills including theory, techniques and listening skills.

Step 2 : Gather recommendations, seek leads through word of mouth, teacher association rosters, and websites. Reach out to local universities with music programes, they can also point you to teachers. You can search online for more options.

Step 3 : Schedule interviews. Set up interviews with potential teachers.

Remember while finding the right teacher is the goal, greatest measure of your success ultimately depends on your own consistent practice, attention to detail, discipline in learning and passion for music. Good teachers can inspire and instruct you to work tremendously well, their aim is to sculpt that work you bring, like clay.
