Almost everyone who dreams of becoming a lawyer in Sri Lanka has to walk through the hallowed doors of what is fondly known as "රජුන් තැනූ පින් බිම" — Sri Lanka Law College.
On the 19th of January 2026, we, the 151st batch of this esteemed institution, took our first step into this historic journey with the commencement of the orientation programme held at the college premises, after successfully passing the highly competitive General Entrance Examination.
The formal sessions of the first day began with religious observances representing all faiths, followed by welcome addresses and motivational yet engaging speeches delivered by our very own Deputy Principal, Mr. Shehan C. Perera, AAL, and our Principal, Mr. Prasantha Lal De Alwis, PC.
The second day of the orientation programme was filled with inspirational speeches conducted by the Principal, Deputy Principal, and several distinguished alumni and eminent lawyers of the country. These sessions added immense value to our lives, offering insights not only into the legal profession but also beyond the confines of lecture halls. The day came to an end with the introduction of the official staff of the college, the people who quietly work behind the scenes to keep everything running. It was especially humbling to realise that the entire institution functions with just 43 academic and non-academic staff members, making their dedication all the more admirable.
The morning session of the third day was fully dedicated to introducing the oldest Law Students’ Union of Sri Lanka, The Law Students’ Sinhala Union, and the many other clubs and societies active within the college. As an enthusiast of extracurricular activities, I can confidently say that Sri Lanka Law College is rich with active and thriving student bodies that provide countless opportunities beyond academics. The orientation programme concluded with an engaging panel discussion and a Q&A session with our beloved lecturers, marking a meaningful end to a truly memorable experience.
