Beautful Jaffna Fort
The Jaffna Fort, located on the edge of the Jaffna lagoon near Pannai Bridge, is a historic 17th-century fortification originally built by the Portuguese in 1618 and expanded by the Dutch. As the second largest fort in Sri Lanka, it features a star-shaped moat, limestone ramparts, and panoramic sunset views.
Colonial History: Known as the "Fortress of Our Lady of Miracles of Jafanapatão," it was a strategic stronghold used by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British until 1948.Present Condition: Heavily damaged during the Sri Lankan Civil War, it is currently being restored.Visitor Info: Open to the public, offering a scenic walk with views of the city, lagoon, and surrounding walls.Inside Features: Remains of the Queen's House, Garrison Parade Ground, and remnants of the Dutch church can be seen
