Many private campuses in Sri Lanka now promote their degrees as “SLQF Level + WES & UGC accepted.”While this sounds impressive, it’s important to understand what it actually means, especially if you are planning to migrate.

What is SLQF?

The Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) is a local system that classifies education levels within Sri Lanka. For example, a bachelor’s degree is usually SLQF Level 5/6, and a master’s degree is Level 9/10.

What about UGC recognition?

UGC (University Grants Commission – Sri Lanka) recognition means the institution is approved to operate locally. This is important for credibility "within Sri Lanka" , but it does not guarantee international recognition for migration.

What is WES?

World Education Services (WES) is an evaluation body, not an awarding authority. WES may assess your qualification and say it is “equivalent” to a degree in another country but this does not automatically mean it will be accepted for immigration or professional registration.
