Been wanting to try the Pittu Kottu at .colombo and I tried it, not once but many times to ensure that I’m giving you the most comprehensive review there is. Here goes!

🍲 Crab Rasam – for rasam lovers out there, this is the real deal. Just the right amount of heat, flavor and crab. I’d want to go back for this on a day when I’m craving a good spice kick and my sinuses need clearing. There isn’t an overpowering taste of crab but this is the taste of good ol’ homemade rasam as we know it.

🍹 – The name being Coffee Colombo, I wanted to try a coffee or a masala chai both the times I visited, but I was told that no hot beverages were available, which was a shame. I had an avocado juice & a mango juice and they were thick and satisfying.

🥩 Mutton pittu kottu – this was a treat, and as far as “kottu” in this country goes, pleasant mild. However for the price, I would have expected more mutton. The mutton was tender and the gravy flavorful, but the real hero of the dish was that surprisingly mellow, but enormously flavorsome pittu kottu itself. It was comforting, wholesome and so so good that I’d go back just for this alone.

🦀 Crab Pittu Kottu – Truly worth the buck. Generously large whole crab and flavorsome gravy on top of that sublime Pittu Kottu, I ended up ordering takeaway.

🦐 Prawn Pittu Kottu – went back the second day for prawn Pittu Kottu. To my dismay, the portion size was definitely smaller. Pictures for comparison.

🌯 Mutton roll – The second day was definitely not my best day. Ordered mutton roll (for Rs 750 I assumed there would be multiple pieces but I was only served with one) which disappointed. Yes there was ample mutton inside the roll but:
a) the filling tasted a little stale
b) for the price, it wasn’t ticking any boxes.
Definitely don’t go for this one.
*Positives*
Definitely the Pittu kottu but watch out for portion sizes. The best value for money in my opinion is the crab Pittu kottu. I absolutely loved that one.

When life give you lemons, you sit them down, give them a pep talk “why are you like this” and pop open the champagne anyway 💁🏽‍♀️
