It is likely that anthropogenic influences driven climate change has elevated our island nation Sri Lanka as a major global hot spot (according to report of the World Bank) affecting 4million people severely by 2020, and more as we know now (with the recent Covid 19 outbreak). Sri Lanka predominantly engage in agriculture-weather base, plantation and food production, which uses 30% of countries labor force, and is the livelihood of 70% of the rural population, which utilizes 43% of total land area of the country. Further 40% of countries energy is supplied through hydro power which is directly affected by climate change. This is why ICC DURRA has taken an initiation long before, with a moral sense of corporate social responsibility and obligation towards reducing Sri Lanka’s carbon foot print and to contribute to countries goals of moving toward a carbon neutral economy. DURRA building panel is manufactured using rice straw fiber, a renewable resource is a waste by-product in abundance in rice consuming Sri Lanka and is in plentiful in supply as its being grown three times of the year. Some of this waste is used as fertilizer sum are burned after the grain harvest which releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
