It was a pleasure to welcome 𝗔𝗻𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗸𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗮, the 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗘𝗢 of Mels Automobiles (Pvt) Ltd · Authorised Importer of BMW in Sri Lanka to the offices of AHK Sri Lanka.

Joining the visit was Melwin Perera, who met with our Chief Delegate, Martin Klose, and our Head of Corporate Affairs, Malintha Gajanayake.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to exchange perspectives on the evolving automotive landscape in Sri Lanka and explore avenues for strengthening German-Sri Lankan business collaboration.

🏥𝗔𝗛𝗞 𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮 – 𝗤𝟮 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 & 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

On 22nd June 2026, AHK Sri Lanka hosted its Q2 Medical & Health Sector Committee Meeting in Colombo, bringing together representatives from the health, pharmaceutical, and medical sectors for a focused exchange on market developments, challenges, and opportunities.

The session included updates on Germany’s economic and political environment, EU trade developments, and ongoing discussions around healthcare reforms. Participants also gained insights into Germany’s healthcare sector as Europe’s largest medical market, driven by demographic change, ageing populations, and rising demand for medical technologies and services.

Members shared practical perspectives on Sri Lanka’s sector challenges, including exchange-rate fluctuations, pricing pressures, regulatory processes, customs procedures, and import-related constraints.

👋We are pleased to welcome Lasitha Wijesinghe to AHK Sri Lanka, where he joined as our new BPO Finance Assistant.

Lasitha is a very recent financial engineering graduate from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Before joining AHK Sri Lanka, he gained on hand practical experience and Bank of Ceylon Treasury Division as a university trainee recently regarding treasury operations with asset and liability management alongside another good set of work experiences within the sector of financial services.

Lasitha chose to join AHK Sri Lanka to broaden his knowledge in finance with an exceptional practical exposure and throughout his journey here, he is also looking forward to gaining an international practical exposure in economic development and the cooperation between German and Sri Lankan businesses. He is especially interested in the area of Fintech, where he has done his undergraduate research in related to financial technology adoption in Sri Lanka. With a strong interest in the field he is working in, he has begun his journey with a high learning-oriented mindset to make a change.

Strengthening German–Sri Lankan Cooperation Across Key Sectors
At the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka), we recently brought together three important Sector Committee meetings 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 (𝗗𝗜𝗧), and 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 all with one shared focus: making ESG a practical, meaningful business approach across industries.

𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆:
👉 ESG is no longer optional or purely compliance driven it is becoming a core driver of competitiveness, resilience, and long-term value creation.

🚢𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲

The discussion highlighted how ESG can be integrated into operational KPIs from emissions and fuel usage to workplace safety and governance standards. Members also exchanged views on digitalisation gaps, single window system challenges, and the need for stronger coordination to improve ease of doing business in Sri Lanka.

💻𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 (𝗗𝗜𝗧)

In the ICT sector, ESG is rapidly evolving into a framework covering cybersecurity, data protection, responsible AI, e-waste, and digital ethics. Participants emphasized that strong governance and compliance can significantly strengthen global trust and position Sri Lanka as a reliable digital partner for Germany and beyond.

🌴𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺

In tourism, ESG is closely tied to sustainability renewable energy use, water management, responsible operations, and inclusive employment practices. The discussion also highlighted current market realities, including shifting travel behavior and the need to maintain strong destination visibility in global markets.

AHK Sri Lanka looks forward to continuing these dialogues and supporting stronger German–Sri Lankan collaboration in building sustainable, future-ready industries.

Andrea holds a BSc. in International Relations (Special Awards) and an LLM in International Business & Commercial Law from the University of West London, providing her with a strong academic foundation in international affairs, global trade, and commercial law.

She began her career at the American Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka as a Senior Intern and Operations Executive before joining the European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka as a Trade and Partnerships Officer.

Over the past five years, she has built valuable experience in chamber operations, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and international trade.

Her core strengths include; Project Management, Stakeholder & Partnership Development, International Trade & Business Relations and Strategic Communication.

Andrea's blend of academic excellence and professional experience makes her well equipped to lead strategic initiatives, strengthen partnerships, and support AHK Sri Lanka's mission of fostering business growth and bilateral cooperation.
