We sat down with Clement Isack, Sri Lanka Rugby’s High Performance Referee Manager, and asked him directly what he says to fans who only ever see things from their own school’s perspective.

His answer was simple and it didn’t hold back.

“It’s just a sport. Rugby has values. One of those values is respect. If you don’t understand what respect means — we have a problem.”

Referees give up their weekends for this game. They turn up wanting to do their best, knowing they will never get every call right, and knowing the criticism will come regardless.
