Born on April 30, 1960, and educated at Ananda College, Colombo, Mr. Sumathipala assumed leadership responsibilities at a young age following the passing of his father. What began as a moment of duty evolved into an extraordinary journey transforming Sumathi Holdings into one of Sri Lanka’s most respected and diversified business groups.

Under his leadership, the organization has expanded across multiple sectors, including technology, media, hospitality, healthcare, and renewable energy driven by innovation, strategic foresight, and a commitment to national progress.

Beyond business, his contributions to Sri Lanka’s cultural, religious, and archaeological heritage reflect a deep-rooted sense of responsibility. His service within the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, along with international representation at the World Buddhist Congress, highlights a life dedicated to both progress and preservation, while elevating Sri Lanka’s presence on the global stage.

A passionate advocate for the arts, he has supported the growth of Sri Lankan cinema through the production of internationally recognized films such as Ahasin Polowata and timeless classics like Ganga Addara, contributing to the industry’s artistic and global recognition.

Above all, he is a devoted family man, whose values of integrity, discipline, and humility continue to guide both his personal and professional life.
