In schools, it is commonly called a "Friendship Exchange" or "Kindness Day," where children share cards, treats, and, for example, heart-shaped items to foster community and inclusive social bonding.

Pongal 2026, celebrated from January 14 to 17, is the Tamil harvest festival marking the beginning of the month of Thai. The festival honours Surya, the Sun God, and expresses gratitude for a prosperous harvest. Traditionally, rice and jaggery are boiled in an earthen pot until it overflows, symbolizing abundance and prosperity.
