Had met with representatives of the estate workers from the Mathugama area to discuss the ongoing failure of estate management to honor agreed-upon daily wages.
It is unacceptable for workers to be deprived of their rightful earnings, especially after fulfilling their labor obligations.
​To ensure a swift resolution and the protection of worker rights, I have issued the following directives to the Senior Vice President of Industrial Relations, Mr. Rajamani, to immediately register an official complaint with the Department of Labour and also Mandated a strict follow-up process to ensure that all outstanding arrears are calculated and paid to the workers without further delay.
​Requested a formal review of the estate management’s compliance with current labor agreements to prevent future recurrences.
​"Our priority is to ensure that the backbone of our industry—the workers—are treated with the dignity and financial fairness they deserve. We will not rest until every cent of the agreed-upon wages is in the hands of the workers."
