Ruhunu Rata
Maya Rata or Dakkhina Deshaya
Pihiti Rata or Rajarata
The three rivers that divide these regions are the Deduru Oya, Kalu Ganga, and Mahaweli Ganga.
These three regions (or only two of them combined) were ruled by separate kings during many time periods. When the Thun Sinhale (three Sinhala kingdoms/Sri Lanka) was under one king, these regions existed as administrative units. There are no facts regarding this political or administrative division before the Anuradhapura Era and after the Athugalpura Era (Kurunegala Kingdom Era). [Not Confirmed]
The place where the three kingdoms of Ruhunu, Pihiti, and Maya meet is Katugastota. Even today, the Thri Sinhalaramaya Viharaya (temple) at Katugastota stands as a testament, symbolizing the Thun Sinhale.
