Our Story

Promising far-reaching hill country views, over-looking the spectacular Knuckles Mountain Range, Hanthana House is unearthed in the Hanthana Hills of Kandy. Hanthana House is home to proffering period furnishings and custom-designed fittings which open to the spectacular foliage and the astonishing views of the Hanthana Hills, while constantly changing its dramatic views and atmospheres that encourage relaxation, reflection and contemplation. Our environment is a special place, which is bountiful and pristine, setting the mood to relax the mind, body and spirit. Know that Hanthana House is a home-stay, neither a hotel nor guesthouse as you live and socialize with a family in their home. The home-stay experience also offer the added benefit of Sri Lankan home cooking, which you can learn to prepare by yourself ensuring to offer the true, authentic Sri Lankan traditional experience. The real experience is the interaction with a Sri Lankan family as they go about their daily life, who offer an unique, minimalist stay and environment carefully crafted to channel energy for your mind, body and soul. The house is approximately a 15-minute's drive from Kandy in the foothills of the Hanthana Mountain Range, an area famous for cultivating some of the first tea grown on the Island and the location of the Ceylon Tea Museum. All our rooms at Hanthana House offer a large plush king bed in each of our Double/Twin rooms. Including, sprawling spaces of heritage luxury, offering splashes of the colors red and blue inspired by the Kandys’ cultural Esela Perahera parade allowing you to indulge in the finest of our island has to offer. Beyond the inclusion of a tranquil rain shower enclosure in each of the attached bathrooms, you not only have access to a host of amenities including complimentary WiFi and tea-coffee facilities but also to balconies/verandas, overlooking the Knuckle’s mountain range and the lush habitat foliage available within our family at Hanthana House. The exterior seating area in particular, is a wonderful spot to sip on a steaming cup of Ceylon tea just as its aristocratic planters did centuries ago in the midst of lush plantations of Hanthana that are decked in the hills of green, which continues to leave this beautiful country, we call home in awe today.
