Dileepa Rajaguru Wildlife Photography

I recently had the opportunity to capture a portrait of the endemic Stoddart’s unicorn lizard, which is widely found in the central hills of Sri Lanka. My goal was to showcase its true colors and intricate scale details, and I believe I achieved that with this photograph.

Today is World Lizard Day. Sri Lanka in particular claims ownership of a multitude of invaluable, endemic lizard species that beautify and amplify the significance of its bio-diversity. Shown below are some of the foremost lizard species that can be found in Sri Lanka.

Gilimale Forest Reserve is a rich biodiversity near to the Peak wilderness sanctuary. We spent two days exploring & capturing endemic herpetofauna & birds in the forest; some of the them are uploaded below.

However, what i observed during our stay was that the precious environment was affected hugely by human contact, & the necessary steps of conservation have not been taken. As a Sri Lankan, It’s our responsibility to step forward & protect ecosystems with great diversity like this.
