We call it the “Meda Midula” in the Sinhala tongue. These are the regal Kandyan homes, the stately walauwas of the hill country. The Meda Midula, translating to “open courtyard” is more than a design element. It is the quiet heart of the house, a space that mirrors the nuances of culture, climate and lifestyle of the proud Kandyan kingdom era.

Stand for a moment in its centre, subsumed by the cool, gentle breeze that flows through the trees and mountains, laid bare to the evening that gets darkened, still beneath a scattering of stars… The house seems to breathe with the landscape around it. In the good old days, there used to be families that gathered here, children playing under the open sky and the elders sat sharing stories, creating a sense of private oasis just for them.

Because the most meaningful journeys always begin at the table…

Sometimes, the smallest acts of giving carry the greatest hope. In the wake of the recent cyclone and floods, we were reminded that rebuilding begins with compassion and collective action.

Authenticities, together with Erdmute & Bruno of Destination Rally and Will Goldberg of IWillGoTravel, donated school bags, water bottles, and stationery items to 150 schoolchildren from Makulella Vidyalaya, Norwood Primary School, Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, Darmaraja Maha Vidyalaya & New Valley Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Sri Lanka’s hill country, supplies that will support them for one fulll school year. Authenticities’ Directors, Wilhelm and Amila, along with Nuwan, personally visited the schools to hand over the donations.
