In Loving Memory of Gerard Rodrigo on his 27th death anniversary

As we mark the 27th anniversary of the passing of our beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandpapa, Gerard Rodrigo, on 15th of June, we take this opportunity to remember and honour an extraordinary man whose talent, dedication, and passion continue to inspire us.

Gerard Rodrigo was a gifted piano craftsman and technician with an exceptional understanding of the art of piano building and repair. We are immensely proud of our beloved father and grand father, who became the first person in Sri Lanka to build a fully functional, playable piano of this kind.

With extraordinary skill, patience, and determination, he sourced every component and painstakingly assembled a complete musical instrument. This was not merely a prototype or display model, but a genuine, fully functional piano capable of producing beautiful music, making him the first person in Sri Lanka to build a piano of this kind. At a time when such an undertaking was virtually unheard of in Sri Lanka, his achievement stood as a remarkable testament to his craftsmanship, ingenuity, and dedication. This distinction belongs solely to Gerard Rodrigo.

His accomplishment reflected not only his technical expertise but also his passion for music and his unwavering commitment to excellence. The piano he created remains a lasting symbol of his vision, perseverance, and pioneering spirit.

His knowledge and craftsmanship earned him the respect and admiration of many. More importantly, he generously shared his expertise with others. We are especially grateful that he passed on his knowledge and skills to his son-in-law, ensuring that the profession he loved so dearly would continue for future generations.

Today, twenty-seven years after his passing, we remain immensely proud of his accomplishments and the legacy he left behind. His dedication, creativity, and perseverance will always be remembered with admiration and gratitude.

You may no longer be with us, but your memory lives on in our hearts and in every note played on the instruments you loved so much.
