ලිතියම්-අයන (Lithium-ion) බැටරියක් “Thermal Runaway” තත්ත්වයට පත්වූ විට, එක් එක් සෙල් (cell) තුළ ගබඩා වී ඇති ශක්තිය ඉතා වේගයෙන් නිදහස් වීමට පටන් ගනී. එය දාම ප්‍රතික්‍රියාවක් (chain reaction) මෙන් එක සෙලයකින් තවත් සෙලයකට පැතිර යයි.

සෙලය අධික ලෙස උණුසුම් වන විට එහි අභ්‍යන්තර පීඩනය ඉහළ යන අතර, අවසානයේ ලෝහ ආවරණය (metal casing) පුපුරා යා හැකිය. එවිට ඇතුළත තිබෙන දැල්විය හැකි වායු (flammable gases) vent එකක් හෝ rupture point එකක් හරහා පිටවෙමින් ගිනි ගනී.

EV හෝ e-mobility බැටරි ගිනිවලදී අපි බොහෝ විට දකින “jet-like flame” එකක් ඇති වන්නේ එලෙසයි — ටෝච් ලාම්පුවක් මෙන් ඉතා කේන්ද්‍රීය හා දිශානුරූපී ගිනි ජාලාවක්, මීටර් කිහිපයක් දුරට පවා විසි විය හැකිය.

මෙම “jet effect” නිසා ගින්න වඩාත් අනපේක්ෂිත හා අවදානම් සහිත වේ.
⚠️ අසල සිටින පුද්ගලයින්ට ඇති අවදානම වැඩි කරයි.
⚠️ හදිසි ප්‍රතිචාර කණ්ඩායම් සහ recovery teams සඳහා අමතර සැලකිල්ලක් අවශ්‍ය කරයි.

සියලුම ප්‍රතිචාර කණ්ඩායම් (responders) Lithium-ion බැටරි ගිනි වල Thermal Runaway හැසිරීම පිළිබඳ අවබෝධයෙන් සිටිය යුතු අතර, lithium-ion බලයෙන් ක්‍රියාකරන වාහන හෝ උපාංගවලින් ඇතිවිය හැකි jet-like fire flames පිළිබඳ සැමවිටම අවධානයෙන් සිටිය යුතුය.

තාපීය පාලනයෙන් මිදීම (Thermal Runaway) සාමාන්‍ය ගින්නක් නොවේ.

අද වන විට බැටරි මෝටර් රථ, ස්කූටර්, විදුලි මෙවලම්, ලැප්ටොප් පරිගණක සහ ගොඩනැගිලි ඇතුළු දෛනික ජීවිතයේ අත්‍යවශ්‍ය කොටසක් බවට පත්ව ඇත. එබැවින් අප අවබෝධ කරගත යුත්තේ පෙනෙන ගිනිදැල් පමණක් අවදානම නොවන බවයි.
ලිතියම්-අයන බැටරියක ගිනිදැල් අඩුවී ඇති බව පෙනුණද, එහි අභ්‍යන්තරයෙන් තවදුරටත් උෂ්ණත්වය ජනනය වීමත්, දහනය විය හැකි වායු නිදහස් වීමත් සිදුවිය හැක.

මෙය විදුලි තාක්ෂණයට දෝෂාරෝපණය කිරීමක් නොවේ. එය අපගේ ගිනි ආරක්ෂණ දැනුම, හදිසි ප්‍රතිචාර ක්‍රමවේද සහ මහජන දැනුවත්භාවය නවීකරණය කිරීමේ අවශ්‍යතාවය පිළිබඳ අවධාරණයකි.

👷‍♂️🧯”Marlbo” Exclusive Safety Seminar – Katunayake BOI

Successfully conducted a Workplace Safety & Hazard Prevention Seminar on 19th March 2026 at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone (BOI) Auditorium.

The session brought together participants from various BOI companies, reputed external organizations, and the Airport Fire Section, creating a highly interactive and knowledge-sharing platform.

The program focused on:
✔ Workplace hazards – chemical, physical, biological, mechanical, psychosocial & ergonomic
✔ Importance of PPE and building a proactive safety culture
✔ Fire safety awareness for both workplaces and homes

A key highlight was addressing the emerging risk of Lithium-ion Battery Fires, including:
🔸 Prevention through proper isolation
🔸 Effective extinguishment through cooling techniques
🔸 Use of specialized equipment such as AVD extinguishers and EV fire blankets

🎥 Real incident-based video demonstrations were used to enhance understanding and emphasize the importance of preparedness.

It was encouraging to see strong engagement and commitment towards improving safety standards across industries.
