Mental and behavioral problem exist in all countries, in
women and men at all stages of life, among the poor and rich
and among rural and urban people. As many as 450 million
people worldwide are estimated to be suffering at any given
time from some kind of mental or brain disorder, including
behavioral and substance related disorders.Worldwide it is
estimated that life time prevalence ranges from 12.2% to 48.6%
and 12-month prevalence between 8.25% and 29.1% [2].
Community’s perception of mental health varies across
the culture, and there are various myths and beliefs regarding mental health. The conceptualization and perceived
cause of mental illness vary from community to community.
Accordingly, people with mental health problem get different
names in different societies.
