Burkina Faso has released 11 Nigerian military officials and a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft after detaining them for more than a week following an emergency landing in the country. Nigeria’s foreign ministry said the crew were freed on Wednesday after a high-level delegation led by Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar held talks with Burkinabe authorities. The Alliance of Sahel States, which includes Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali, had accused Nigeria of violating Burkinabe airspace after the aircraft landed in the south-western city of Bobo-Dioulasso but Nigeria rejected the claim insisting that the landing was a precautionary safety measure carried out in line with international aviation protocols. The soldiers are due to arrive Nigeria today.
