LEC Clarifies Cause of Temporary Power Disruption; Assures Public of Its Commitment to Improving Electricity Supply

Monrovia, Liberia – January 20, 2026: The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) wishes to inform the public that the recent abrupt power disruptions experienced in parts of the country were not due to inadequate electricity supply, nor has LEC reached any critical stage of load shedding.

The interruptions experienced over the last few days, including today’s disruption, resulted from abrupt trips on the Côte d’Ivoire–Liberia–Sierra Leone–Guinea (CLSG) Transmission Line, which serves as the regional interconnected electricity backbone linking the four countries. When such trips occur on the CLSG network, they generate system feedback into local substations. To protect critical equipment and prevent extensive damage, LEC’s automated protection systems are designed to immediately shut down affected components.

LEC assures the public that this protective response is a standard and necessary safety mechanism to safeguard infrastructure and ensure system reliability.

Following the incident, LEC’s technical teams promptly intervened, and power is being successfully restored to affected areas. Normal operations have since resumed.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary disruption may have caused and reassures the public of its continued commitment to the reliable provision of electricity across the country. LEC remains steadfast in strengthening its systems and collaborating with regional partners to enhance grid stability.

This is to inform the general public and the Liberia Football Association the death of liberia talented football player "Dar Tupee Jonas Darwoe"

🇱🇷 Paynesville FC defender Tupee Darwoe of the Liberian First Division has tragically passed away following a fatal car accident.

According to information gathered from club sources and individuals close to the family, Darwoe and five others were returning from a graduation ceremony last night when their vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into a light pole.

The young defender was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.

Another individual, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, also lost their life in the accident. Two others are said to be in critical condition, suffering from severe injuries, including major fractures.
