TEAM LESOTHO OFFICIALLY SENT OFF TODAY FOR GLASGOW 2026

The Commonwealth Games Association of Lesotho (CGA Lesotho) today officially bade farewell to the 14 athletes who will proudly represent the Kingdom of Lesotho at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking place from 23 July to 2 August 2026.
Team Lesotho will compete in Athletics and Boxing, with both male and female athletes participating across various categories as they carry the nation's hopes onto the international stage.

The send-off ceremony hosted at the British High Commission in Maseru, was attended by the Hon. Minister of Sports, Hon. Mputi MPUTI, who officially bid farewell to Team Lesotho and encouraged the athletes to compete with determination, discipline, and pride while flying the national flag high in Glasgow.

Also in attendance were the Acting British High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Lesotho, Her Excellency Olivia HILDEBRAND, The Principal Secretary of Ministry of Sports , Ms Matlotliso KHABO, CGA-Lesotho President Mr. Letsatsi NTSIBOLANE, Director of Sports Mr. Thabo TSIKI, Chef de Mission Ms. Mamotsabi LEKHABUNYANE, team officials, representatives of National Sports Federations, sponsors and members of the media.

As the countdown to Glasgow 2026 comes to an end, the entire nation stands firmly behind Team Lesotho. We wish our athletes every success as they prepare to showcase their talent, resilience, and the true spirit of Basotho on the Commonwealth stage.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF LESOTHO LAUNCHED BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT

The National University of Lesotho (NUL) today officially launched its Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Sport (BSc PES) under the Faculty of Education - Department of Science Education, marking a significant milestone in advancing sports education and developing skilled professionals for the country's sporting sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education and Training, the Deputy Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) said the programme will provide innovative solutions to challenges facing sports development. She called for stronger collaboration among government ministries and stakeholders to make sport more accessible and emphasized that physical education should be recognized as a vital part of education that equips young people with lifelong skills.

Delivering the keynote address, the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture , Honourable Mputi MPUTI described the programme as a strategic investment in the future of sport in Lesotho. He thanked the Government of Cuba for its technical support in developing the curriculum and stressed that sporting excellence requires scientific knowledge alongside natural talent. He added that the programme will produce qualified sports professionals while also creating opportunities in sports tourism, contributing to Lesotho's economy and health sector.

The four-year degree is designed for aspiring teachers, coaches, and sports administrators, while diploma holders will complete it in three years. The programme positions Lesotho alongside other Southern African countries that have embraced the professionalization of sport through higher education.
