Breaking Barriers Through Experience: LDTC Capacity Training Session
In honour of celebrating World Braille Day,LNDB proudly collaborated with LDTC and LNLVIP on the 23rd January to deliver a highly engaging and impactful capacity training session for LDTC staff which was a day dedicated to learning, inclusion and lived experience.
The session began with an introductory segment followed by informative presentations that unpacked disability, inclusion and the importance of creating accessible environments. Participants were actively engaged and eager to learn as discussions unfolded.
One of the major highlights of the day was the Braille Introduction Session. Attendees were introduced to Braille and guided through a short practical lesson on the Braille alphabet. The excitement was palpable as some participants successfully managed to write their own names in Braille. This was a powerful and memorable moment that truly brought learning to life.
After lunch, the atmosphere shifted into a refreshing experiential session. Participants took part in blindfolded football, an activity that may sound unusual but is absolutely possible!
The specially designed ball produces sound, allowing players to track it using hearing rather than sight. Brailled playing cards were also used, adding to the hands-on experience.
Through these interactive activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of visual impairment, inclusion and accessibility. More importantly, the mandate of the capacity training was effectively met which was building awareness, empathy and practical knowledge.
A big thank you to LDTC and LNLVIP for the collaboration and commitment to promoting disability inclusion. Together, we continue to build a more inclusive society.

On the 12th of January the Lesotho Network of Development of the Blind (LNDB) successfully hosted a capacity training session at Botho University, aimed at strengthening understanding of disability, inclusive education and an introduction to Braille.
The session was highly engaging and informative, providing Botho University staff with a clearer and more practical perspective on the experiences of persons with visual impairments and the importance of inclusive learning environments.
To deepen understanding, a number of hands-on activities were conducted. Staff members were given Brailled sheets to feel and explore, allowing them to experience how information is accessed through touch. In another exercise, participants were blindfolded and guided to navigate their way into the training venue, offering a powerful insight into the daily mobility challenges faced by visually impaired individuals.
These experiential activities sparked meaningful discussions, reflection and a greater appreciation of the need for accessibility, empathy, and inclusive practices within educational institutions.

OUR APOLOGIES FOR DELAYING TO POST THESE GOOD NEWS
The Lesotho Network of Development of the Blind (LNDB) attended a two-day workshop organised by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) held from the 12th to 13th January. The workshop was conducted as a dialogue focusing on actualising inclusivity in the electoral process of Lesotho.
The purpose of the dialogue was to engage key stakeholders in discussions on how to ensure that the electoral process is inclusive, accessible and responsive to the needs of all citizens particularly persons with disabilities including persons with visual impairment.
During the workshop, participants discussed various challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the electoral cycle including access to voter education, voter registration processes, polling stations, voting materials and information dissemination. Emphasis was placed on identifying gaps within the current system and exploring practical solutions to enhance accessibility and participation.
LNDB actively participated in the dialogue by sharing experiences and insights on the barriers faced by persons with visual impairment during elections. The organisation provided recommendations on improving access to electoral information through accessible formats, inclusive voter education programmes and reasonable accommodation at all stages of the electoral process.
LNDB commends the Independent Electoral Commission for initiating and facilitating this important dialogue and for its continued commitment to promoting inclusive and democratic elections. LNDB reaffirms its commitment to collaborate with IEC and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the electoral process in Lesotho is inclusive accessible and equitable.
