Justice, Equity and Inclusion: The Key to Building Africaโ€™s Climate Resilience โ€“ Climate Justice Africa Magazine 07/02/2026

Our case study on Lesotho โ€” taking women as a focus group โ€” has showcased how women are at the height of vulnerability to climate change both in the highlands and the lowlands. It highlights that while women are globally disproportionately affected by climate change, those in the highlands experience different and often more severe impacts compared to women in the lowlands. Women in the highlands face heightened climate risks, which continue to undermine livelihoods and food security. Reliance on subsistence farming to meet their own and their familiesโ€™ daily nutritional needs has increasingly become a challenge due to changing climate patterns.

These findings further reinforce the priorities outlined in Lesothoโ€™s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), which recognize gender-responsive climate action, climate-resilient agriculture, and community-based adaptation as critical pathways to strengthening resilience among vulnerable groups, particularly women.

We at Plant One Tree (POT) proudly stand with the world in marking World AIDS Day โ€” a day that reminds us of the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS and the shared responsibility we carry to protect, uplift, and empower our communities.

HIV/AIDS continues to affect families, young people, and vulnerable groups across the globe โ€” including right here in Lesotho. Despite progress in treatment and prevention, stigma and misinformation remain some of the biggest barriers to ending AIDS.

At Plant One Tree, we believe that every person deserves access to accurate information, regular testing, compassionate support, and quality healthcare โ€” regardless of their status or background.

Today, we commit to:

๐ŸŒฟ Raising awareness to end stigma and discrimination
๐ŸŒ Promoting accessible and youth-friendly health services
๐Ÿฉบ Encouraging everyone to know their status and seek timely treatment
โค๏ธ Supporting those affected with dignity and respect
๐Ÿค Building strong communities that protect one another

HIV is not a death sentence โ€” silence is.
Let us speak openly. Let us support loudly. Let us stand together.

As we plant hope in every community, we envision a future where health wins, stigma ends, and every life is valued.

Together, we can end AIDS.

POT was truly honoured to be invited to the European Union in Lesotho Civil Society Dialogue held in Maseru on 24 November 2025. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ
This invitation marks an important milestone for us, showing that the work we do on environmental protection, youth empowerment, and community resilience is being recognized at national and international levels. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

The dialogue brought together key civil society organizations to engage directly with the European Union on major thematic areas such as water, energy, governance, natural resource management, and the progress of EU-funded initiatives. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ธ

For POT, being in this space meant carrying the voices of our communities, representing grassroots environmental action, and contributing to discussions that influence Lesothoโ€™s sustainable future. Every seat we take in such forums is a victory for climate resilience, community empowerment, and the protection of our natural environment. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒฑ

We extend our appreciation to the EU Delegation and partners for including us in this meaningful engagement. We leave inspired, connected, and more committed than ever to our mission.
