As an aviation fuel management platform, Sensus Aero enables organizations to increase productivity and continuously improve performance through the elimination of non-value-added practices.
Right now, we’re being asked a lot of questions about sustainable aircraft fuels, so let us give you a speedy rundown 😊

What are SAFs? 🤔

§ Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a renewable substitute for fossil fuels. Sustainable aviation fuel can be produced using various conversion technologies and raw materials, which can range from waste oils and agricultural waste to carbon captured from the air.
§ Sustainable aviation fuel can be blended with conventional jet fuel and used in existing aircraft without modifications to engines or infrastructure.

What are the benefits? 💡

§ It has been widely acknowledged that sustainable aviation fuel will be the most impactful measure to eliminate fossil jet fuel.
§ Depending on the conversion technology and raw materials used, sustainable aviation fuel can reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by around 80% compared to fossil fuels.
§ Sustainable aviation fuel also produces less non-CO2 emissions, which increases greenhouse gas reduction efficiency. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint of flying.

With SAFs high on the agenda for regulators and airlines, fuel supply monitoring and management are too. An ERP platform like Sensus Aero gives businesses the ability to conduct smart checks of existing balances and receive timely information on any stock-related issues. Fully customizable, Sensus Fueling can be tailored to match the unique needs of each client partner and fleet managers alike. ✅

Right now, we’re being asked a lot about the future of the ground-handling industry, so we’ve compiled a hit list of the major trends for the remainder of 2023 and beyond. ⏩

Did you know that the global airport ground handling market size was valued at $31.8 billion in 2022, and is projected to reach $76.1 billion by the end of 2032? That’s a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.2% from 2023 to 2032. ❔

So, what other trends can we expect to see in the ground-handling sector, that aligns with globalization, growth, and an increase in air traffic? 🤔

✈ Overcoming labour shortages and knowledge gaps ― Thousands of ground handling staff left the aviation industry during the pandemic. Now as aviation ramps up, the severe shortage of skilled ground staff is shedding light on the need for reform to stabilize the talent pool.

✈ Return of passengers will increase the risk of baggage mishandling — According to the SITA 2022 Baggage IT Insights, the number of mishandled baggage was 4.35 per one thousand passengers in 2021. This represents a significant increase of 24.3% from the previous year and leans on the industry to provide action in this space.

✈ Move towards standardization — Industry standards simplify common processes and reduce cost and complexity. They allow airlines to work seamlessly with each other and with other stakeholders such as airports, ground service providers, cargo agents, freight forwarders, and governments.

✈ Digitalization and sustainability — Technological advancements transform the airport ground handling industry, by improving efficiency, safety, and the overall passenger experience. There is a rise in the design of automated ground handling systems, while artificial intelligence is increasingly being utilized in airport operations to optimize ground handling operations, cut down on delays, and enhance the passenger experience.

As an ERP platform, it’s imperative for us to understand the direction in which the aviation industry is heading. This week, we’re taking a closer look at what the future holds for the MRO sector as it’s about to get a whole lot busier… 💡 📌

* The worldwide commercial aviation fleet will expand 33% to over 36,000 aircraft by 2033 — a compound annual growth rate of 2.9%.

* Aviation’s global aftermarket, which provides the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services to keep the fleet flying, is also expected to grow another 22% this year, topping $94 billion — a mere 2% below its 2019 peak.

* By 2033, it will reach $125 billion — a compound annual growth rate of 2.9%. In 2022, MRO demand expanded 18%.

* In February, Air India placed the largest aircraft order in history — 470 aircraft, valued at somewhere around $85 billion. The carrier also has the option to buy an additional 370 aircraft.

* Overall, Oliver Wyman forecasts 20,600 new production aircraft to be delivered over the next 10 years. Most will be narrowbodies where the demand is the strongest.

* The increase in the size of the fleet is fueling demand for MRO too. Engine MRO has historically represented the biggest piece of the MRO market and remains so today.

* In 2023, engine MRO is expected to exceed 2019 levels, helping the overall MRO market to rebound. This recovery comes a year earlier than previously forecast because of the rapid return of air travel demand and utilization. Over the forecast period, engine MRO is expected to hit $63 billion by 2033, representing compound annual growth of 4%.

With global questions on climate change and sustainable fuels, the aviation industry also faces some tough challenges. While the demand for air travel will be there, the capacity to meet it may not always be. But for now, aviation is on a growth trajectory. 📢
