Roger Anger is one of the most prominent figures of the 20th century French architects of the 1960s and 1970s who worked on the Auroville project conceived by Mirra Alfassa and approved by UNESCO. He also collaborated on several occasions with Pierre Puccinelli, notably on the design of the Green Island (L'Île Verte) district in Grenoble, located in a bend of the Ysére River. When the district was completed in 1967, its three 33-story towers, reaching 98 m, were the tallest residential buildings in Europe.
