Big changes ahead for taxation of the digital economy

In the aftermath of the last economic crisis, governments across the Globe decided to look for alternatives to increase public revenue and turned its head towards scrutinizing certain tax strategies that multinational companies had been following for decades.

The idea was to tackle potential tax avoidance with a global solution, and the biggest effort in this respect was the OECD’s BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) project, an ambitious set of actions intended to reduce tax avoidance by coordinating tax rules on a worldwide basis.

Marchés financiers en 2020: le risque est-il bien rémunéré?

Les performances des actifs financiers ont été exceptionnelles en 2019. Un virage à 180 degrés de la politique des banques centrales mondiales en est la cause principale. Alors qu’elles communiquaient sur des resserrements monétaires fin 2018, provoquant de lourdes pertes sur les marchés financiers, elles ont à nouveau adopté des politiques plus accommodantes dès le début 2019, en baissant leurs taux directeurs; la Federal Reserve (Fed) américaine allant jusqu’à reprendre – au dernier trimestre 2019 – une politique d’achats d’actifs qu’elle avait stoppée 5 ans plus tôt.

Ce retour à une politique agressive d’«assouplissement quantitatif» a d’autant plus surpris les investisseurs qu’il intervient à un moment où l’administration américaine actionne déjà tous les leviers de l’économie en même temps: incitations fiscales, forte hausse du déficit budgétaire… (source: https://paperjam.lu/article/marches-financiers-en-2020-ris)
