FATCA, "US Persons" and International Civil Servants :
The FATCA lesgislation has introduced the status of « US Person » which has raised many questions to people internationally mobile like international civil servants. This status has also brought numerous changes for financial institutions.

To define this fiscal status, the IRS use the US indicia of a person. The main criteria are US citizen ship and tax residencies. As an international official or employee working for an Intergovernmental organisation in the USA, you hold a G-4 diplomatic, theorically you are not affected by the US Person status.

The complexity of the administrative procedures and legislation has led many financial institutions to cease providing services to the US Persons. AMFIE has decided to maintain some services for them like the multi-currency account among other. The G-4 visa holders have access to all of the Financial Cooperative Association’s services.
