Internal OpenPGP Implementation in The Bat! v12.2

We have released a new version of the email client The Bat! focusing on enhanced encryption, privacy, and usability improvements.

The most significant change in The Bat! v12.2 is the return of the internal OpenPGP implementation. Previously removed in version 9 due to becoming outdated, it has now been reintroduced in a fully modernized form. Internal PGP engine allows users to work with OpenPGP encryption without relying on external tools such as GnuPG. Internal OpenPGP implementation supports modern cryptographic standards, including Ed25519, ECDSA, ECDH, RSA, and AES-256, ensuring a high level of protection.

To improve encryption workflows, we have added support for PGP key servers (HKP/HKPS) and Web Key Directory (WKD). This allows automatic retrieval of public keys when encrypting or verifying messages, simplifying key management for users who rely on secure correspondence.

Another notable new feature is the Subject protection. The subject line can now be encrypted as part of PGP/MIME and S/MIME messages, preventing exposure of sensitive information that would traditionally remain visible even in encrypted emails.

The Bat! v12.2 introduces theme switching options in the “Options → Preferences” menu, including light, dark, automatic and time-based modes, offering more flexibility for different environments and user preferences. In the new version we have also improved color group settings and the emoji picker. Composing emails has become more convenient, with the message subject now displayed directly in the taskbar.

To enhance stability we have added backup file integrity verification. This feature ensures created backup files are fully restorable.

The HTML editor has received refinements aimed at making formatting behavior more consistent and intuitive, particularly when working with styled text. In addition, a number of fixes improves overall stability, addressing issues related to text input, message headers, and data import from external sources.

The Bat! has always been a privacy-focused email client and the updated internal PGP implementation makes modern encryption tools even more accessible.

Improved DPI Support in The Bat! v11.5.1.1

We are glad to announce the release of a new version of The Bat! that includes important enhancements to your email experience. The key focus of The Bat! v11.5.1.1 is the significantly improved DPI support, ensuring clearer, more consistent display across high-resolution screens.

We have added the new option "Default window font size" (the "Options\ Preferences\ System" menu) which allows you to easily increase or decrease the default fonts used in the account/folder tree, message list, and dialog windows. In addition, we have resolved a number of DPI display handling issues, providing a smoother and more comfortable experience on high-resolution screens.
