As the intellectual facet of Tipiṭaka, Abhidhamma is exquisitely subtle in essence and extensively broad in content to encompass the in-depth exploration on the phenomena. Abhidhamma Pitaka has been studied for centuries through traditional approaches of Piṭaka Studies. Today, there is a great opportunity to learn Abhidhamma in combination with traditional study methods and modern research methods. Abhidhamma Pitaka and the related scriptures are to be centered on the study of Social Sciences and Humanities apart from literary study as a primary focus. In this regard, SOLA will emphasize on the study of the subtle concepts of Abhidhamma along with the experimental and applied methods for research to tackle the challenges of the new century and meet the needs of the new generation.

Suttanta Studies +: Key Approach

As the heart of the three forms of Pitaka, Suttanata Literature conserves five sets of Nikaya and a variety of prose and poetry with the richness in form and taste. SOLA is committed to provide the environment that will be conducive to the study of Suttanta literature through the combination of traditional learning methods and modern research techniques. In addition, it will be approached from the perspectives of Social Science and Humanities along with a major focus on Buddhist Studies, centred on the Suttanta Pitaka and the related literatures. Through the in-depth review on a series of Buddhist Studies from the past, it will further theoretical studies as well as practical application skills to address the challenges of the new century and more importantly the research-oriented studies of Suttanta literature will be specialized to meet the needs of the new generation.

The academic initiative of Sitagu Open Learning Academy is to launch a Diploma Foundation program in the field of Buddhist Studies with the division of 4 Levels in 2 Parts. Curriculum for Part I & II is designed to cover core subjects along with the elective subjects. In Part II, the major field of subjects is emphasized through research-intensive approaches.
