It is a great pleasure to host our special guests: Mr Helge Brunse, the Country Manager of ADDA, and our colleagues from the MIID Hopong Office.

We had a two-day productive workshop on the 1st and 2nd of November, on MIID's current project activities in Pa-O SAZ, supported by ADDA.

As part of our projects on conservation and our environmental activities in Inle, we have developed a series of cartoons to raise awareness on plastic pollution and single-use plastic in particular, encouraging people to bring their own bags and their own containers when shopping, and refuse plastic bags. We hope this will raise awareness at a time when takeaway food is on the rise and along with the number of single-use plastic bags, foam boxes and plastic containers.

Since their first publication, these cartoons, designed by Cartoonist Waiyan Taunggyi, from Shan State, have become viral and have already been translated into Indonesian and English to be used as part of awareness campaigns in Indonesia, Ghana, and other African countries.

MIID PUBLISHES PHOTO ESSAYS ON WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT IN SHAN STATE

To present key research findings from the “Pathways to Economic and Political Empowerment for Ethnic Minority Women in South and East Shan State” project, MIID have published a collection of 16 photo essays.

The case studies illustrate key themes regarding women’s empowerment and provide valuable insights into the daily lives of women and men in seven ethnic communities in Shan state.
The research has been co-created with local CSO leaders and is funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC).

On this year’s World Environment Day, the spotlight is on ‘Biodiversity.’ From 2 June to 5 June, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Myanmar), together with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Myanmar), and Ooredoo Myanmar will be organizing three events to commemorate the World Environment Day in Myanmar and draw attention to the need for restoring nature and reversing biodiversity loss. The main message from the outbreak of the ongoing health crisis is that the way we live and design our societies is not sustainable; the Time cannot be postponed, and everyone must Act now.
