DPF Fault Diagnosis – P2003 / Low Filtration Efficiency

A very common failure on Euro 6 diesel vehicles, particularly found on Kia/Hyundai, JLR and Mercedes platforms, among other brands.

In this case:

✅ Differential pressure is extremely low (0.012 bar )
✅ Exhaust tailpipe heavy visible soot deposits.
✅ DPF efficiency fault stored and recirring(P2003)
❌ No evidence of a blocked DPF

The issue is not a clogged filter, but an ineffective one.

The DPF substrate can crack, melt or burn internally,even on very low milage cars, allowing exhaust gases and soot to pass through with minimal restriction. The ECU detects insufficient filtration efficiency and logs a DPF efficiency fault, despite differential pressure remaining low.

Important:
Cleaning procedures and forced regenerations will not repair this condition. The filter is no longer capable of trapping particulate matter, so regeneration is ineffective.
